Publix debuts new store prototype
December 20th, 2013
ORLANDO, Fla. – Publix Super Markets Inc. has opened a new store prototype in Orlando, Fla., that incorporates several new features and services to compete with upscale retailers such as Whole Foods Market Inc.
The new store, located at 7524 Dr. Phillips Blvd., measures 59,000 square feet, about 30% larger than the chain average.
In addition, the location includes a 1,500-square-foot cooking school with a staff of five chefs and a cafe, and it offers shopping and delivery services.
The newest Publix outlet is located about a mile from a Whole Foods store and a Trader Joe’s store that will open soon.
“We’re going to be all things to all people, hopefully,” a company spokesman told the Orlando Sentinel. “Everyone has different tastes and wants, and we hope to touch all of those.”
