Target, Neiman Marcus team on holiday collection
July 10th, 2012
MINNEAPOLIS and DALLAS – Discount retailer Target Corp. is partnering with upscale department store chain Neiman Marcus to offer a limited-edition holiday collection, including apparel, gifts and other items.
The retailers said Tuesday that they've assembled 24 leading designers to create the product collection, which is slated to become available Dec. 1 at all 1,763 Target stores and 42 Neiman Marcus stores, as well as on the Target.com and NeimanMarcus.com websites.
According to the companies, the Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection includes "an eclectic and diverse mix" of more than 50 products, with prices ranging from $7.99 to $499.99 but most items costing less than $60.
Items in the collection include gifts in women's, men's and children's apparel and accessories plus such other offerings as sporting goods, home decor, pet accessories and electronics accessories, published reports said.
"Target and Neiman Marcus are known for charting new terrain, and by joining forces for the holiday season we've set the stage for a redefining moment in retail," Target chairman and chief executive officer Gregg Steinhafel said in a statement. "This collaboration is unlike anything Target has done before, and we are confident our guests will be thrilled with this extraordinary collection that features some of America's most preeminent designers."
Designers who created items for the collection include Alice + Olivia, Altuzarra, Band of Outsiders, Brian Atwood, Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Eddie Borgo, Jason Wu, Judith Leiber, Lela Rose, Marchesa, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Philip Crangi, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, Robert Rodriguez, Rodarte
Skaist-Taylor, Thom Browne, Tory Burch and Tracy Reese.
The retailers said more information about the Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection, including details about the products created by each designer, will be made available this fall.
"Neiman Marcus and Target share a passion for great design and delighting customers in new and unexpected ways," stated Karen Katz, president and of The Neiman Marcus Group. "We are thrilled to be collaborating to offer a spectacular and special collection of one-of-a-kind items for the holidays. These will be the 'must-have' gifts, whether you are a loyal Neiman Marcus customer, a devoted Target guest or a fan of American design."
The collaboration with Neiman Marcus marks Target's latest effort to enhance the shopping experience for its customers and expand the reach of its brand.
For example, since launching its successful P-Fresh grocery format a couple of years ago, the discount store chain has unveiled initiatives to offer limited-edition merchandise from independent specialty stores — including tests of Apple boutiques in 25 stores — and to roll out an urban format, dubbed CityTarget. And next year, Target plans to open its first stores in Canada.
