Rite Aid expands McKesson pact

February 24th, 2014

CAMP HILL, Pa. – Rite Aid Corp. has expanded its distribution contract with McKesson Corp. to include generic drugs. The agreement, announced February 18, also extends the contract through March 2019.

The agreement calls for McKesson, whose largest business focuses on distributing prescription drugs and medical products in the United States, to assume responsibility for distributing and sourcing generic drugs for Rite Aid’s 4,600 drug stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia.

Rite Aid stores will benefit from the full value of McKesson’s daily direct-to-store delivery service model for pharmaceutical sourcing and supply chain management, the companies said in a joint press release.

Earlier this month, McKesson improved its purchasing power via its acquisition of Celesio AG, one of Europe’s largest drug wholesalers.
