Ending months of speculation, BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. agreed to be sold to private equity investors for $2.8 billion in cash. In a momentous ruling expected to have ongoing repercussions, the Supreme Court rejected the class-action sex discrimination lawsuit against Walmart. Whole Foods Market Inc. can have 1,000 stores in the United States, more than tripling its current number, co-chief executive officer Walter Robb said last month. Rite Aid Corp. is in the midst of a same-store sales resurgence. The Consumer Confidence Index fell in June for the second consecutive month. Publix Super Markets Inc. plans to enter the Knoxville market next year. The grocer currently has 30 stores in Tennessee, with 27 located in Middle Tennessee and three in the Chattanooga area. Making a major investment in its home market, Walgreen Co. plans to remodel many of its 142 drug stores in Chicago, quadruple the number of “food oasis” stores there and expand its downtown office space.
