Publix set to extend its reach

July 11th, 2011

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Publix Super Markets Inc. plans to enter the Knoxville market next year. The grocer currently has 30 stores in Tennessee, with 27 located in Middle Tennessee and three in the Chattanooga area.

The 56,000-square-foot Knoxville supermarket will include a full-service deli, a bakery, service meat and seafood, a produce department and a pharmacy.

"We are proud to offer our unique shopping experience to customers in Knoxville," says Todd Jones, president of Publix. "We are committed to providing premier customer service and look forward to supporting the Knoxville community as early as third-quarter 2012."

The Publix supermarket will be next to a Target discount store in the Northshore Town Center.

Though Publix has not yet made any official announcement, the mayor of Oxford, Ala., has declared that the chain is slated to open a 49,098-square-foot store there in fall 2012.
