Big Lots Inc. has shaken up its senior management ranks after reporting disappointing quarterly results and lowering its earnings guidance for the second time. Supervalu Inc. is reportedly asking potential buyers of parts of its business to consider bidding for the entire company instead. The Delhaize Group reported lower second quarter profits as store closures and investments at Food Lion pressured sales and earnings. Fred’s Inc. reported net income of $6.1 million for the second quarter, an increase of 19% over the prior-year period. Walmart is expanding its move into the health care field with the launch of an expanded immunization program at more than 2,700 of its stores. A strong performance from its United States food retail operations helped boost net profit at Royal Ahold NV by 25% during the second quarter. A weaker performance by its flagship Albert Heijn chain in the Netherlands, however, cut into operating profit. Walgreen Co. is deploying the Greenway Medical Technologies Inc. enhanced electronic health record (EHR) platform chainwide. The rollout is slated to be completed by the end of next summer. Though it’s hardly news that today’s consumers are shopping at a variety of retail outlets to fit their budgets and meet their personal needs, they may be channel switching even more than retailers might think, according to a report from SymphonyIRI Group Inc.
