First lady tours Walgreens store

November 14th, 2011

CHICAGO – First lady Michelle Obama toured a Walgreens store on Chicago’s South Side late last month as part of her ongoing effort to shed light on childhood obesity.

The store is one of several outlets across Chicago and in a handful of other markets where Walgreens has created “food oasis stores” to help provide better food options and accessible health care to underserved communities.

The event was part of a mayoral summit hosted by the first lady’s Let’s Move! initiative and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

"We can talk all we want about making healthy choices about the food we serve our kids, but if parents don’t have anywhere to buy those foods then that’s all it is — it’s just talk," Obama said.
