A recent New York Times headline ran as follows: “Sales at Wal-Mart, Though Still Rising, Suggest Wary Shoppers.” The story that followed detailed Walmart’s quarterly results: a comp-store sales gain of 2.2%, a total sales increase of 4.5% to $114.3 billion, and earnings of $4.02 billion. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Pharmacy and Technology Conference, the final installment of which took place at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver last month, included a notable innovation.
