Family Dollar launches children's clothing line

June 1st, 2010

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Family Dollar has expanded its apparel offerings with the rollout of Kidgets, a value-priced clothing line for young children.

The deep discount chain said Tuesday that the Kidgets private label, available now at the retailer's stores nationwide, offers a broad lineup of $10-and-under apparel and accessories for newborns through toddlers. Items range from outfit sets, shoes and sneakers to baby blankets, sandals and jumbo-pack diapers.

Family Dollar noted that Kidgets brings affordability and high quality as well as a sense of style to children's fashions, giving shoppers "fun" options such as jelly sandals with flowers and athletic shoes in hot colors and patterns like fuchsia and plaid.

The retailer, too, said it's backing up Kidget products with its money-back guarantee, promising a full refund to customers not satisfied with items in the new line.

"Family Dollar is excited to give families more reasons to shop at our stores," stated Howard Levine, chairman and chief executive of Family Dollar, which operates more than 6,700 stores in 44 states. "Our exclusive Kidgets line provides style, comfort and variety for moms to dress their children at price points that meet any budget."

To support the Kidgets launch, Family Dollar is hosting the "Cute as a Kidget" photo contest, which kicked off over the Memorial Day weekend. Participating customers can win a grand prize of $5,000 cash; a Canon PowerShot A1100IS digital camera with a memory card, a tripod and a bag; and the opportunity to have their child featured in an upcoming Family Dollar advertising campaign.

To enter, families can visit www.cuteasakidget.com and upload their "cutest Kidget photos," the retailer said. Family and friends will then have a chance to vote on who they think is as "Cute as a Kidget," and Family Dollar will announce the winner on July 16. The web site will also host a Cute as a Kidget sweepstakes, conducting drawings for more prizes and daily Family Dollar gift card giveaways.
