Retail News Breaks Archives According to a new survey by KPMG, most senior retail executives see business improving this year and expect even an even better situation in terms of revenue, profits and jobs in 2011. PriceSmart Inc. has promoted president Jose Luis Laparte to the position of chief executive officer, replacing Robert Price, who remains chairman of the board. Price is the son of Sol Price, founder of the membership warehouse club format. The latest edition of the Grocery Manufacturers Association’s (GMA) annual industry report has concluded that the consumer packaged goods (CPG) sector needs to devise new tactics to find growth in a post-recession economy. Closeout retailer Tuesday Morning Corp. reported a 6.4% rise in fourth-quarter net sales to $200.8 million that was driven primarily by a 6% gain in comparable-store sales. Ahold NV’s Peapod online grocery arm has expanded its home and business delivery service to more than 40 new communities in the Northeast. Weis Markets Inc. recorded a 34.9% increase in net income to $20.5 million, or 76 cents per share, for the 13-week quarter ended June 26.
