July sales disappoint despite warm weather

Despite seasonably warm weather that helped boost clearance sales of summer apparel, especially among department stores, July generally produced disappointing same-store sales growth among reporting mass market retailers.

Whole Foods third-quarter profit and sales surge

On Wednesday Whole Foods Market Inc. reported an 88% increase in net income as sales grew 15% during the third quarter of fiscal 2010.

Weis Markets stores cut refrigerant use

Publix Super Markets Inc. reported a 15.8% increase in net earnings to $348.4 million for the second quarter of fiscal 2010, with earnings per share rising to 44 cents from 38 cents per share in the fiscal 2009 quarter.
