CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Dollar Tree Inc. last month announced two new executive hires as the company continues to overhaul its leadership team.

Michael Creedon Jr. joins Dollar Tree as its chief operating officer, and Pedro Voyer assumes the role of chief development officer.

Creedon comes to the discount retailer from Advance Auto Parts Inc., which he joined nearly nine years ago and since last year has held the title of executive vice president for U.S. stores.

Creedon replaces Thomas O’Boyle, who left Dollar Tree this summer along with four other executives following a board shakeup instigated by activist investor Mantle Ridge LP, one of the discount retailer’s largest shareholders.

“With Mike Creedon’s arrival and our recent appointments of Jeff Davis, Bobby Aflatooni, Larry Gatta and John Flanigan, we are truly building a world-class retail leadership team that will help to accelerate the growth of the company, Mike Witynski, Dollar Tree’s president and chief executive officer, said in announcing the hire. “In the coming months, I will continue to fill key roles and announce new executive team members.”

Witynski said that Creedon will be “instrumental in driving the execution of our strategy, and a key leader supporting our culture transformation.”

Creedon said he will be focused on improving the in-store experience for shoppers. “Dollar Tree and Family Dollar are well positioned to be a critical solve for the millions of households dealing with historic inflation. My team will be focused on improving operational processes and efficiencies to better support our store associates and field leaders, and the customers they serve. We will be focused on recruiting, training and retaining key retail associates and helping them build their careers at Dollar Tree.”

Voyer arrives at Dollar Tree from JAB Holding Co., a partnership of investors in consumer goods and services. Voyer most recently served the firm as senior vice president and general manager of international for the Panera Bread fast-casual restaurant brand and senior vice president and chief operating officer of international for JAB-owned Caribou Coffee and the Einstein’s Bagel brand.

“With more than 25 years of leadership experience in the domestic and international multi-unit food and beverage industry, Pedro has a strong track record in profitable new unit growth, portfolio asset management and facility management,” Witynski said in announcing the hire. “Pedro will lead our real estate teams to enable our long-term growth and provide customers with a shopping experience that wows them each time they visit our stores.”
