Target Corp.’s expansion into Canada is taking shape. The company has chosen a management team and a headquarters building for its Target Canada unit, and it has selected the first group of Zellers store sites for possible conversion into Target outlets.

The management team is led by Target Canada president Tony Fisher. Most recently vice president of merchandise operations, Fisher joined Target in 1999.

Bryan Berg, a 27-year Target veteran, who most recently served as senior vice president of the chain’s Region 100, which includes stores in the Midwest and northern West Coast of the United States, has been named senior vice president of stores for Target Canada.

Todd Marshall, formerly vice president and general merchandise manager, has been named senior vice president of operations for Target Canada.

Rick Maguire, who joined Target in 1985 and was most recently senior vice president of merchandise planning, has been named Target Canada’s senior vice president, supply chain.
John Morioka has been named senior vice president of merchandising for Target Canada. Morioka began his career at Target in 1994 and most recently worked on merchandising initiatives for CityTarget.

Tiffany Scalzitti, who joined Target in 2001 and has held posts in distribution, human resources and new business development, has been named vice president of human resources at Target Canada.

Jane Windmeier, who has been with Target since 1983 and was named senior vice president of finance in 2000, has been named chief financial officer of Target Canada. She is also senior vice president of global financial systems for Target.

Target has also chosen a headquarters for its Canadian operations — a 180,000-square-foot space in a LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) gold standard building in Mississauga, Ontario, which is about 16 miles outside Toronto.

The list of initial Zellers store sites picked by Target includes properties in 10 provinces: 15 in British Columbia, 13 in Alberta, two in Saskatchewan, five in Manitoba, 45 in Ontario, 19 in Quebec, one in New Brunswick, two in Nova Scotia, one in PEI, and two in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The vast majority of those 105 sites will become Target stores, and in September the retailer is due to announce a second wave of store site picks.
