E-commerce sales jumped 107% for the month

Costco reports 18% sales gain in January

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Costco Wholesale Corp. on Wednesday reported net sales of $13.64 billion for the retail month of January, up 17.9% from the $11.57 billion recorded in January of 2020. The company’s e-commerce sales in January rose 107%.

For the twenty-two weeks ended January 31, 2021, the company reported net sales of $79.11 billion, an increase of 15.4% from $68.56 billion in the comparable period last year.

Comparable store sales for the month were 15.4% in the United States, 15.2% in Canada, 19% in other international markets, and 15.9% for the company as a whole. Comparable e-commerce sales were up 106.7%. For the 22-week period, comparable store sales were up 12.8% in the U.S., 13.9% in Canada, 19% in other international markets, and 13.8% for the company as a whole. Comparable e-commerce sales for the 22-week period were up 79.5%.

Costco currently operates 803 membership warehouse clubs, including 558 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 102 in Canada, 39 in Mexico, 29 in the United Kingdom, 27 in Japan, 16 in Korea, 14 in Taiwan, 12 in Australia, three in Spain, and one each in Iceland, France, and China. Costco also operates e-commerce sites in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and Australia.
