CRN launches ‘4 Things to Know’ video series

WASHINGTON — The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) has launched a new video series, “4 Things to Know.”

CRNThe videos explain complex dietary supplement industry topics and are intended to help non-industry audiences. The series is hosted by CRN staffers, who the trade association describes as experts in their fields, with deep knowledge of the scientific, regulatory, and legal aspects of dietary supplements.

“Industry issues can get complicated quickly,” said Brian Wommack, CRN’s senior vice president of communication. “The new series drills down to the basics using short, digestible videos to help a broader range of audiences understand how industry issues affect them.”

The videos are also designed to allow industry stakeholders to communicate a baseline level of information to a wider audience that includes  consumers, legislators and staff, media contacts, and others.

CRN has released two videos in the series. The latest is on probiotic dietary supplements and is hosted by Andrea Wong, CRN’s senior vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs. The video is part of CRN’s ongoing effort to educate stakeholders about the intricacies of probiotics and how these live organisms differ from other dietary supplements.

The other video that has been released deals with age restrictions for dietary supplements and is hosted by CRN president and CEO Steve Mister. That video reflects CRN’s opposition to proposed state legislation that limits access to sports nutrition and weight management products by age.

“Stakeholders supporting proposals on age restrictions for dietary supplements may not realize that these products are already well-regulated federally,” said Wommack. “Additional restrictions might actually increase risks for young people. CRN’s short video addresses that concern and suggests what might be more effective in keeping youth—and all supplement users—safe.”

Future topics in the series will include third-party certification of supplements, mandatory product listing, sports nutrition supplements, supplement use for nutritional shortfalls, and more. CRN’s “4 Things” video series can be accessed here.
