Retailer seeks employees to support continued growth

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General has announced plans to hire up to 50,000 employees between now and Labor Day.

“At Dollar General, we are uniquely positioned as the nation’s largest retailer by store count to serve customers through our expansive network and provide access to careers in the communities we call home,” said Kathy Reardon, Dollar General’s executive vice president and chief people officer. “With more than 17,400 stores located within approximately five miles of 75% of the U.S. population, we’re excited by the favorable impact we can make on the current job market and individuals looking to join our growing team.”

Earlier this year, Dollar General announced plans to hire more than 20,000 employees during its spring nationwide hiring event. The new hiring drive builds on the success of that program and will support the retailer’s plans to open 1,050 new stores in fiscal 2021.

Besides hiring employees for its stores, Dollar General is looking to fill positions in its distribution, transportation and corporate operations.

Dollar GeneralDG currently operates traditional (dry) and fresh distribution centers, for example, that offer opportunities in general warehouse, human resources, inventory control, maintenance, training and administration. And store operations opportunities include such positions as regional directors, district managers, store managers, assistant managers, part-time/full-time lead sales associates, and part-time sales associates. The retailer is also seeking Class A Commercial Drivers Licensed (CDL) drivers for its private fleet, adding that it is currently offering a $5,000 signing bonus to be paid within employees’ first six months of employment.

Other job opportunities are available at the company’s corporate headquarters, located near Nashville, Tenn.

Dollar General added that it believes that a diverse workforce and an inclusive, equitable environment “not only contributes to and helps sustain positive business results and growth, but also is key to future success,” and said that one of the company’s key operating priorities is to “invest in our diverse teams through development, empowerment, and inclusion.”

“Whether it is supporting programs that address the challenges of underserved communities or working to ensure that every DG employee has the opportunity to feel heard and seen, the scope of DG’s efforts reflects the important role we play in creating and maintaining a more diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace,” said Dr. Johné Battle, Dollar General’s vice president of diversity and inclusion.

DG currently has five Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) including the African American ERG, DG Young Professionals ERG, Women’s Professional Network ERG, EQUAL ERG (dedicated to LGBTQIA+ team members and allies) and SERVE (dedicated to military veterans, active service members and supporters). Each group is organized around a chosen commonality and works to leverage differences, support belonging, promote awareness and build a more inclusive culture consistent. DG’s ERGs also focus on cultivating a stronger ties to the communities the company serves.
