SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion has completed the upgrade of its 23 stores in the greater Charlottesville-Harrisonburg, Va., market, marking the event with grand reopenings in 14 towns and cities throughout the area on July 31.
The $40 million investment, part of parent company Ahold Delhaize USA’s “Easy, Fresh and Affordable” program to enhance Food Lion’s competitive position, includes store remodels, improved merchandising, the addition of 400 associates and donations to the stores’ communities.
“Food Lion has nourished our neighbors in the greater Charlottesville-Harrisonburg community for 37 years, and we’re excited to bring these improvements to our 23 local stores,” says Food Lion president Meg Ham. “We’ve created a new grocery shopping experience through the significant investments in our stores, associates and communities. From our expanded variety and product assortment, newly reorganized stores, to a more efficient checkout experience, every change we’ve made will make it easier for our customers to find the quality products they have come to expect from Food Lion.
“When coupled with our weekly sales and promotions, customers will see that we have made it easier for them to nourish their families with healthy foods on a budget.”
The stores now boast expanded product assortments and greater variety, including more local produce featured in “Local Goodness” sections; expanded craft beer offerings; limited reserve wines; and more local, natural, organic and gluten-free items. The stores also provide a larger selection of Nature’s Promise beef, pork, poultry, milk, eggs, bottled water, cereal, coffee and other items. Ahold Delhaize USA’s Nature’s Promise brand consists of products that are free from artificial flavors, preservatives and synthetic colors. Food Lion has also increased its selection of complete meals for families, including hand-battered chicken, as well as grab-and-go items and pre-sliced deli meats and cheese. To underline the quality promise of its perishables, Food Lion offers a double-your-money-back guarantee on its fresh meat and produce.
With the reopening of the Charlottesville-Harrisonburg stores, 80% of Food Lion’s total store base has been remodeled.
