TORONTO — Shoppers Drug Mart plans to enhance its photo services under a new partnership with Fujifilm.

Shoppers Drug Mart plans to enhance its photo services under a new partnership with Fujifilm.

Under the agreement, Fujifilm will support the implementation of upgraded photo services kiosks in the Canadian pharmacy chain’s stores, as well as deliver new online and social imaging capabilities.

Fujifilm’s technology also will give customers a variety of options for capturing, printing and sharing their digital photos quickly and cost-effectively with the introduction of several new products and services, according to Shoppers Drug Mart. At the center of these services will be personalized products such as photo books, greeting cards and calendars.

"Shoppers Drug Mart has firmly established themselves as the trusted neighborhood destination for Canadian families," commented Michael Finch, group vice president and general manager for business operations at Fujifilm Canada Inc. "Their reputation and national reach provides Fujifilm an ideal platform to offer Canadians effective and unique imaging solutions."

Plans call for a phased rollout of the enhanced photo services to select Shoppers Drug Mart stores to start late this summer. The retailer said it currently has digital photo services available in more than 700 stores.

"This partnership, coupled with the recent agreements with Rogers and Sony, solidifies our strategic drive to further improve the service center offering in our stores," Jürgen Schreiber, president and chief executive officer of Shoppers Drug Mart, said in a statement.

"Our customers are increasingly looking for unique, personalized and convenient options for sharing their photos," Schreiber explained. "Fujifilm’s vision and technological leadership in this key category will allow us to offer our customers differentiated and convenient photo services that are consistent with what they have come to expect from Shoppers Drug Mart."

The pharmacy chain has 1,183 drug stores under the Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix banners across Canada.
