CARLISLE, Pa. — The GIANT Co. said it plans to add four new stores in Philadelphia, accelerating its omnichannel growth in the city.

“The GIANT Co. is committed to Philadelphia, and this expansion across our family of brands exemplifies our strategy in action,” said the company’s president, Nicholas Bertram. “True to its reputation of being the City of Brotherly Love, Philly families have wholeheartedly embraced GIANT, GIANT Heirloom Market and GIANT Direct, and that has only fueled our team to dream bigger and more boldly as we shape our plans for tomorrow. We’re excited about our future in Philadelphia and to be expanding across the city, with stores designed for both families and commuters that meet the needs of each unique neighborhood.”

The company plans to open a new 32,000-square-foot GIANT Heirloom Market store in Philadelphia’s Fashion District. The company also plans to open three new GIANT stores in the city: a 46,000-square-foot store on Columbus Boulevard, a 50,000-square-foot store on North Broad Street and a 40,000-square-foot store on South Broad Street.

GIANT said it would reveal additional details about the planned stores at a later date.

As the second-largest private employer in Pennsylvania, GIANT currently employs more than 27,000 team members statewide, including about 600 in Philadelphia. The company expects to hire about 700 team members in total across these four new locations.

The retailer opened the Riverwalk GIANT, its two-level urban flagship store in Center City, in March.

First announced in 2019 as a centerpiece of the Logan Square neighborhood’s new Riverwalk mixed-use development project, the 65,000-square-foot store is located on the second floor of a 25-floor residential tower.
