CARLISLE, Pa. – GIANT Co. is set to open a new supermarket in Swatara Township, Pa., on Friday. The 51,000-square-foot store, located just outside Harrisburg, Pa., will operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week and employ about 150 full- and part-time team members, the retailer said on Monday.

“Since announcing our plans earlier this year, we – much like the surrounding community – have been counting down to opening day, just in time for the holidays,’” said Sherry Beitler, a 33-year grocery veteran, who has been named manager of the outlet. “Our new store will feature the very best of the GIANT brand and be among the first to feature design elements inspired by our new brand platform, For Today’s Table. We are so excited to be a part of the Swatara community and can’t wait to welcome shoppers!”

Offerings at the new Swatara store include:

  • Farm fresh garden produce – More than 350 fresh produce items including a variety of organic selections, locally grown produce, in-store fresh cut fruits and vegetables;
  • Fresh meat & seafood – Offering a greater product selection such as USDA Prime, Nature’s Promise meats, fresh fish, and a variety of local offerings;
  • Full-service deli – Fresh assortment of Boar’s Head deli meats and cheeses along with an expanded selection of prepared foods and grab and go meals;
  • Full-service bakery – Featuring signature cakes, artisan breads, made-fresh donuts and other dessert favorites;
  • GIANT Direct – Designed to serve customers whenever and however they want to shop, GIANT Direct gives busy Swatara customers the opportunity to order their groceries online for easy curbside pick-up or delivery at giantdirect.com; and
  • Beer & Wine Eatery – Stocked with more than 300 varieties of national and local brand beer and wine in addition to fresh-made fare including meal combos, sandwiches, wraps, salads, subs, and sushi. The new eatery will be open Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“GIANT believes in connecting families for a better future and those connections begin when gathered together around the table for a meal,” Beitler said. “This store was designed with families in mind and making it easier for them to share a meal and connect. Throughout the store, we’re helping to simplify the shopping experience for our customers from optimized product assortment and improved displays to offerings for meal inspiration and savings.”

In conjunction with the grand opening of the new store, which is set for 8 a.m. on Friday, GIANT will make donations to the following local community groups: the Central Dauphin School District, the Swatara Township Fire Department, the Swatara Township Police Department and the Tri County Community Action Program. The store will also donate backpacks filled with healthy snacks and Phillies merchandise to more than 700 students at Rutherford Elementary School and Chambers Hill Elementary School.
