BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Kellogg Co. is releasing its 10th annual Corporate Responsibility Report, “Nourishing Families So They Can Flourish and Thrive,” and celebrating progress significantly ahead of schedule on its Breakfasts for Better Days commitments.

Kellogg said it donated 570 million servings of food, nearly triple its annual target

Company founder W.K. Kellogg was an early conservationist and a leading philanthropist whose legacy lives on in the company and its employees. Kellogg is committed to creating 3 Billion Better Days by the end of 2025, through its Breakfasts for Better Days global signature cause platform addressing food security. Kellogg is scaling its impact by working in partnership with others to improve lives and the planet while strengthening its business and building purpose-driven brands.

The company said that the 2017 impacts have delivered value for its business, its consumers and in communities around the world in support of improved food security:

  • 66 million people engaged in its efforts, double its annual target.
  • More than 7,400 employee volunteer days.
  • 570 million servings of food donated, nearly triple its annual target.
  • 586,000 children around the world benefited from its funding to breakfast and nutrition education programs, more than double its annual target.
  • 300,000 farmers, delivering nearly 60% of its goal to support improved livelihoods through improved climate-smart agricultural practice.

“We are proud to continue making a measurable difference in the lives of children and families, as well as on our planet, by addressing nutrition, hunger relief and sustainability around the world,” said Steve Cahillane, chairman and chief executive officer of Kellogg. “Our abilities to make a difference in people’s lives and to win in the marketplace are completely intertwined in today’s world of connected, socially conscious consumers. That’s why Breakfasts for Better Days is an essential part of our company’s Deploy for Growth Strategy and a key contributor to business success.”

For the last 10 years, Kellogg said it has measured corporate responsibility efforts against one of the industry’s highest standards, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, a globally recognized framework for companies to measure and communicate their environmental, economic, social and governance performance. And in 2017, Kellogg became one of the first companies to publish its performance against the Sustainable Accounting Standards Board framework.

“Kellogg is a company with a heart and soul, and our goal is to make a real difference while responsibly growing our business,” said Kris Charles, senior vice president of global corporate affairs. “As a company, we set aggressive corporate responsibility goals for ourselves and continue to make great progress against them. This progress — as well as the stories of the Kellogg colleagues and partners around the world who help us to achieve these goals — is outlined in our annual Corporate Responsibility Report, which is available at kelloggcompany.com.”
