Meijer Inc. has unveiled its newest store concept, Meijer Marketplace, in this Chicago suburb. At 90,000 square feet, the outlet represents a smaller version of the Meijer supercenter, which typically measures nearly 200,000 square feet.

Although the store’s footprint has been reduced by nearly half, it still features the key departments of a full-size store, including fresh meat and produce and extensive deli, bakery and pantry goods on the grocery side. The assortment has been carefully tailored to the highly diverse local community with a targeted array of Hispanic produce, Italian deli meats, European cookies, a fresh sushi bar and more than 40 Hispanic beers.

The general merchandise area offers electronics; seasonal items; toys; home, kitchen and bath products; and a pet department. The retailer will maintain a dialogue with its customers and adjust offerings based on their needs. The store also contains a full-service pharmacy with a full variety of national brands and Meijer brand health and beauty care products.

"Meijer is thrilled to bring our newest store concept to this great community," said Hank Meijer, cochairman and chief executive officer. "Our team has worked very hard to bring the great Meijer experience to our new customers in the Melrose Park area, and we’re very proud to join this vibrant neighborhood."
