Publix to add second Kentucky store

Retailer set to debut in the state in 2023

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets Inc., which in September announced plans to expand into Kentucky, said Tueday that it has signed a lease for a second store in the state.

Located in Louisville, like the previously announced store, the new 55,701-square-foot Publix supermarket will include a drive-thru Publix Pharmacy and an adjacent 2,800-square-foot Publix Liquors store offering beer, wine and spirits.

The store is expected to open in the first quarter of 2024; a grand opening date has not yet been determined. The first Kentucky Publix store is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2023.

“We are proud to be planting roots in Jefferson County and look forward to building lifelong relationships with our new customers,” Publix CEO Todd Jones said of the company’s continued expansion into Kentucky. “With two planned stores currently in development, we are excited to continue sharing our Publix culture and commitment to service with the Bluegrass State.”

Kentucky is the eighth state for Publix, which currently operates 1,291 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
