Retailer signs lease for first store in Bluegrass State

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets Inc. has signed a lease for its first store in Kentucky, the company said on Tuesday. The 55,702-square-foot supermarket will be located in Louisville, at the northwest corner of Terra Crossing Boulevard and Old Henry Road in Jefferson County.

The project also includes an adjacent Publix Liquors store, the first located outside the state of Florida, that will offer beer, wine and spirits.

A grand opening date has not been set, but Publix said the store is expected to open during the fourth quarter of 2023.

“Moving into Kentucky is a natural progression for our company,” Publix CEO Todd Jones said, “and we are excited to serve and be a part of this vibrant community.”

Kentucky will be Publix’ eighth state of operation, and the company said it is looking forward to growing within the commonwealth and in its current operating area.
