CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has named Paul Gilbert as its general counsel and corporate secretary. Since joining Rite Aid on an interim basis earlier this year, Gilbert has played a key role in the company’s efforts to evolve into a destination for whole being health. As general counsel, he will serve on Rite Aid’s Executive Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team, and will assume leadership over the organization’s legal efforts.

Gilbert joined Rite Aid in an interim role on May 21, to assist with the company’s virtual annual meeting of stockholders, and other governance matters.  He has also offered strategic guidance on a variety of business initiatives as the company continues its RxEvolution strategy, which seeks to redefine the industry by positioning Rite Aid as the leading midmarket PBM, unlocking the value of the pharmacist, and revitalizing Rite Aid’s retail and digital experiences.

“We believe Paul’s experience working with healthcare providers, integrated health networks, payors, and technology solutions will be an asset as we continue to implement our bold RxEvolution plan,” said Heyward Donigan, president and CEO, Rite Aid. “We’re excited to add his proven leadership and perspective to the team of senior leaders working toward a bright new future for Rite Aid.”

“This is an important time in healthcare, and Rite Aid is literally on the front lines of the critical mission to keep communities healthy and thriving,” Gilbert said. “I look forward to supporting that effort by further strengthening our internal legal, compliance, and governance-related capabilities so Rite Aid is well positioned to realize its vision for the future of pharmacy and pharmacists.”

Before joining Rite Aid, Gilbert was a corporate healthcare partner at Epstein Becker & Green, P.C. Prior to that, he served for more than 10 years as the Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Governance Officer at LifePoint Health, Inc. He holds a juris doctorate from the Vanderbilt University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University.
