BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Later this month Sam’s Club is slated to give free DermaScan skin tests to the first 100 people who sign up at each store.

Later this month Sam’s Club is slated to give free DermaScan skin tests to the first 100 people who sign up at each store.

The Walmart warehouse club subsidiary said Monday that the screenings, conducted by U.S. Wellness, will be available to members and nonmembers.

DermaScan tests uses Type A ultraviolet light to show sun damage that’s invisible to the naked human eye. The condition of the skin below the surface is illuminated in various fluorescent hues, making sun-damaged areas, blocked pores, oily and dry spots visible, according to Sam’s Club.

Participants in the skin health assessments will also receive Sophyto samples from its organically-based antiaging skin care line while supplies last, the retailer said.

"May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and according to the American Cancer Society, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of their lifetime," Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president of health and wellness at Sam’s Club, said in a statement. "Sam’s Club hopes to promote early detection and prevention of skin cancer. By offering free skin health screenings in our pharmacy areas, we can help educate how important it is to protect your skin."

Sam’s Club noted that its pharmacists are available to assist customers in finding the skin care products best-suited to their needs and that its stores carry a wide range of sun protection items, including offerings from Coppertone and the Neutrogena Spectrum + Advanced Sunblock with Helioplex360 line, which provides comprehensive, full-spectrum UVA/UVB protection.

The wholesale club retailer added that throughout the year it will host more free monthly health screenings, including for diabetes, children’s health, men’s health, vision health and women’s health.

Earlier this year, Sam’s Club provided free allergy screenings in select locations and free heart health checkups at its pharmacies nationwide.
