SC Johnson to buy Sara Lee global insecticides unit

RACINE, Wis. — SC Johnson has reached an agreement to acquire Sara Lee Corp.’s global household insecticides business.

SC Johnson has reached an agreement to acquire Sara Lee Corp.’s global household insecticides business.

The Racine, Wis.-based household products maker said it’s purchasing the pest control business that’s part of Sara Lee’s Household and Body Care unit. The Sara Lee insecticides business markets products under the brands Ridsect, Bloom, Catch, Cucal, Pyrel, Vapona and Fumitox.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. SC Johnson said it’s now working on transition plans for the business and expects the transaction to close by the end of the year, pending regulatory approval.

"We are pleased that this deal, and the addition of the Ridsect, Bloom, Catch, Cucal, Pyrel, Vapona and Fumitox brands, helps SC Johnson further extend its reach to even more families around the globe for whom pest control products provide invaluable health protection," SC Johnson chairman and chief executive officer Fisk Johnson said in a statement.

SC Johnson manufactures and markets household cleaning and home storage, air care and insect control products under such brands as Glade, Off!, Pledge, Raid, Scrubbing Bubbles, Shout, Windex and Ziploc. Its brands marketed outside the United States also include Autan, Baygon, Brise, Echo, Kabikiller, Klear and Mr. Muscle.
