Labeed Diab has left his post as president of health and wellness for Walmart U.S. to join Brookdale Senior Living Inc. as chief operating officer.

Diab was scheduled to start at Brookdale, a Nashville-based operator of senior living communities across the country, on November 16.

Diab has served as president of health and wellness of Walmart’s U.S. division since April 2014, when he replaced Dr. John Agwunobi in the role. In the post, Diab was responsible for the retailer’s full-service health and wellness offerings, including its pharmacies, vision centers and primary care clinics.

Before he assumed that role, Diab was president of the Walmart U.S. Midwest division.

Diab began his career as a pharmacy manager at American Stores, parent of Jewel-Osco and Sav-on Drugs. Diab served in regional and divisional operations roles at CVS Caremark Corp. and Rite Aid Corp. before joining Walmart in 2009 as director of ­operations.

A company spokeswoman notes that Michelle Gloeckler will continue to lead Walmart’s health and wellness business as executive vice president of consumables and health and wellness.

Walmart is the nation’s third-largest pharmacy retailer, with more than 5,100 pharmacies and estimated pharmacy sales of nearly $24 billion. It also operates its own vision centers and care clinics.

Also departing Walmart is Shelly Broader, who had been serving as president and chief executive officer of Walmart’s Europe, Middle East and Africa region. She had responsibility for the company’s retail operations and business development across Europe, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa and Canada, leading 1,345 retail units and more than 285,000 associates.

Broader has been named president and chief executive officer of Chico’s FAS Inc., a women’s clothing retailer that operates more than 1,500 stores in the United States and Canada under a variety of banners, including Chico’s, White House Black Label and Soma.

Broader will take the CEO post at Chico’s effective December 1. She will also join the company’s board of directors. She succeeds David Dyer, who will become vice chair of the board.

Broader joined Walmart in 2010 She served as chief merchandising officer for Walmart Canada, and was later promoted to president and CEO of Walmart Canada.

Prior to joining Walmart, Broader was president and chief operating officer of Michael’s, the world’s largest arts and crafts retailer with 1,000 U.S. and Canadian stores. Before that she spent 17 years with Delhaize America’s Hannaford Bros. chain.

Broader’s team will now report to Walmart International president and CEO David Cheese­wright, according to the Walmart spokeswoman.
