BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart has redrawn the lines of responsibility in its U.S. stores division in a bid to improve coordination between its merchandising and marketing functions.

Walmart U.S. chief marketing officer Stephen Quinn will now report to Walmart U.S. chief merchandising officer Duncan Mac Naughton, the Reuters news service reported. Quinn previously reported directly to Walmart U.S. president and chief executive officer Bill Simon. Mac Naughton continues to report to Simon.

Mac Naughton joined Walmart in 2009 and was named the company’s chief merchant in January 2011. He previously served as executive vice president of merchandising and marketing at food retailer Supervalu Inc.

Quinn joined Walmart in 2005 and has been chief marketing officer since 2007. He is responsible for such marketing functions as customer research, strategy, customer communications and private brands.
