BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Dottie Mattison, senior vice president and general merchandise manager of apparel for Walmart U.S., has resigned.

Dottie Mattison, senior vice president and general merchandise manager of apparel for Walmart U.S., has resigned.

Her departure came less than two months after Walmart decided to split her responsibilities with Lisa Rhodes.

Mattison had reported to chief merchandising officer John Fleming, who is slated to depart Aug. 1.

She was named head of apparel in June 2007, succeeding Claire Watts, who had overseen an unsuccessful foray into fashionable wear. Mattison had previously worked at Gap Inc.

But Walmart’s apparel business has continued to disappoint. In May, vice chairman Eduardo Castro-Wright told analysts that apparel’s first-quarter performance had "remained below expectations" and continued to be "a work in progress."
