Walmart.com teams with Fanatics on sports gear

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Just in time for the Super Bowl, Walmart.com on Tuesday launched a specialty shop with licensed apparel and other gear for sports fans.

The site is being operated in partnership with Fanatics – a brand for sports fans that makes team and player merchandise, and operates such popular sites as NFLShop.com, NBAStore.com and MLBShop.com

Fanatics jersey“The Fan Shop by Fanatics will offer hundreds of thousands of items from professional sports leagues, including NFL, NBA, MLB, NASCAR and MLS, and top brands, including Nike, New Era, Majestic and Fanatics,” Eric O’Toole, general manager for sports and fitness at Walmart U.S. eCommerce, wrote on the retailer’s web site. “Products include officially licensed apparel, jerseys, hats, collectibles, tailgating items and novelty products. Fanatics also holds exclusive licensing rights to produce and distribute merchandise for major professional sports leagues and events, which will enable us to quickly give customers access to the latest and greatest items for sports’ biggest moments, including official fan gear for this weekend’s Super Bowl and the recent NFL Conference Championships.”

O’Toole said the announcement of Walmart’s partnership with Fanatics is part of an ongoing commitment to create unique, specialized experiences on Walmart.com that make it easier to for customers to find the products they want.

“We offer more than 75 million items on Walmart.com,” he said. “And, as we continue to grow our assortment, we are also focused on adding harder-to-find specialty items.”
