AUSTIN, Texas — Whole Foods Market Inc. has announced it has 19 leases for its small-format “365” store.

Following the May 25 debut of the inaugural 365 by Whole Foods Market in the Silver Lake section of Los Angeles, the next two openings will be in Lake Oswego, Ore., in July, and Bellevue, Wash., in the fall. There are seven other leased sites in California, three in Ohio, two in Texas, and one apiece in Illinois, Indiana, Georgia and Florida.

The company renegotiated leases in development for locations in Akron and Toledo, Ohio, and Bloomington, Ind., converting them from Whole Foods Market stores to 365 outlets.

“Experience and efficiency were top of mind when making investments in developing these stores,” said Jeff Turnas, president of 365 by Whole Foods Market. “Our new stores will give shoppers access to a thoughtful selection of high-quality food in a fun and efficient environment, whether it’s for a quick lunch stop or a weekly shopping trip.”

Designed to complement the Whole Foods Market banner, the 365 stores will feature a curated mix of products that adhere to the company’s quality standards, in a modern and streamlined environment. Additionally, customers can expect to find unique in-store experiences through a partnership program called Friends of 365. The Lake Oswego store will host two Friends of 365 partners based in Portland, Ore. — Next Level Burger, a plant-based take on the classic American burger joint, and Canteen, a fresh and healthy cafe and juice bar. Both will establish shops within the 365 store. Next Level Burger will serve plant-based burgers, fries, shakes, hot dogs and organic salads alongside craft soda, local beer and kombucha. Canteen will feature design elements from its flagship store in Portland and will serve an innovative menu of organic juices and smoothies as well as other selected items.

“Oregon is known throughout the country for an extremely creative and diverse food scene, and we wanted to find partners that would be reflective of those qualities,” said Turnas. “We’ve made it a point to keep an open mind during the selection process, considering anything and everything. This time it was the team in the Pacific Northwest that helped us discover friends for this new store. They were huge fans of Next Level Burger and Canteen and suggested they would be a great fit.”

He predicted the store will be “a Portland area destination for healthy, fast casual eating as well as convenient grocery shopping.”
