JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. has reopened two of its stores, located in Apopka and St. Johns, Fla., after performing what the company terms transformational remodels on them.

Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. has reopened two of its stores, located in Apopka and St. Johns, Fla., after performing what the company terms transformational remodels on them.

The remodels bring to five the number of stores sporting the new format, which was introduced last year at a new store in Covington, La.

Executives say the stores’ transformation goes beyond such physical alterations as wood floors, modern lighting and a farmers’ market at the store’s entrance to encompass a distinctive food offering that is uniquely ­merchandised, catering to the needs, tastes and preferences of the surrounding communities.

The remodelled stores include large delis serving restaurant-quality entrees and side dishes.

The bakeries offer an expanded selection of specialty desserts, pastries and made-to-order cakes as well as loaves of freshly baked bread, while expanded seafood departments present fresh sushi made by an on-site sushi chef. The stores provide a broad selection of international cheeses and domestic and imported wine as well. And the store itself has brighter, more colorful décor.
