NEW ORLEANS — Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG) on Wednesday marked the celebration of Winn-Dixie’s 65th Anniversary in Louisiana with two store openings and kicked off a series of community events throughout the greater New Orleans area that aim to honor the culture, people and community that have supported Winn-Dixie since 1956.

Louisiana governor John Bel Edwards has declared July 28 Winn-Dixie Day in the state, and on Wednesday the chain unveiled two newly remodeled stores, one in New Orleans’ Mid-City neighborhood and one in nearby Gretna. The two new stores are among 19 renewal investments SEG has made in Louisiana in less than five years, the company said.

Each newly remodeled Louisiana store promises customers an enhanced shopping experience that includes a wide selection of local products, updated farm-fresh produce departments, a wide variety of easy lunch and dinner options, expanded natural and organic selections, and freshly made sushi.

The Mid-City store grand opening also included the unveiling of a mural commissioned to pay homage to Winn-Dixie’s 65 years in Louisiana.

The grocer is also celebrating its anniversary by hosting two community celebrations and launching a new yearlong community initiative, 65 Ways, to support 65 charitable acts around the state.
