SALISBURY, N.C. — Two divisions of Ahold Delhaize USA celebrated the opening of new stores this month, and a third announced a $40 million plan to remodel 23 stores in Virginia.

The GIANT Food Stores division held grand openings at a half-dozen stores in four states. Five of the stores — former Shop ’n Save locations GIANT acquired earlier this year — are branded Martin’s Food Markets. They are located in Smithsburg, Md.; Greencastle, Pa.; Berryville, Va.; Hedgesville, W.Va.; and Martinsburg, W.Va. The sixth store is brand new and up and running under the GIANT banner in Warrington, Pa.

Ahold’s Giant Food division opened a new 40,000-square-foot store in Olney, Md., that is its first to feature a new decor and layout. The design incorporates space for a full-service pharmacy as well as a Starbucks café and a PNC bank branch.

Ahold’s Food Lion chain said its Virginia store updates are part of an ongoing rebranding and remodeling strategy — with the slogan “Easy, Fresh and Affordable … You Can Count on Food Lion Every Day!” — that was launched in 2014. The remodel campaign has now come to Food Lion stores in 14 cities and towns in the Charlottesville and Harrisonburg markets. Each store will remain open while the remodeling takes place, the company said.
