MODESTO, Calif. — E.&J. Gallo Winery, the nation’s largest wine producer, says it has purchased J Vineyards & Winery, a supplier of premium sparkling wines headquartered in Healdsburg, in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley.

E.&J. Gallo Winery, the nation’s largest wine producer, says it has purchased J Vineyards & Winery, a supplier of premium sparkling wines headquartered in Healdsburg, in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley.

The deal includes the Healdsburg winery and more than 300 acres spread over nine vineyards. In addition to sparkling wines, J Vineyards is known for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.

Gallo said the deal expands its presence and properties in California’s North Coast wine region. Gallo already owns nine wineries in wine regions in California and Washington. Gallo is one of the largest vineyard owners in Sonoma County, with about 3,500 acres of land.

"We are very excited to add the J Vineyard & Winery brands to our premium portfolio of wines," said Roger Nabedian, senior vice president and general manager of Gallo’s premium wine division. "The brand’s contemporary elegance has a unique position in the marketplace."

J Vineyards & Winery was founded nearly three decades ago by Judy Jordan, who at the time was 25 years old and working with her father Tom Jordan, founder of Jordan Winery.

"Over the past 30 years I’ve created and built J Vineyards & Winery from a small sparkling wine house to an iconic luxury brand," Jordan said. "I am proud to announce today that I have found the perfect fit to take this beautiful company to even greater heights."

Terms of the deal, which is scheduled to close by the end of the week, were not disclosed.
