HUNTINGTON, N.Y. — Lidl has come to Huntington. The German food retailer opened its third store on Long Island with a grand opening on Wednesday.

The event featured a ribbon cutting ceremony and kicked off a weekend of get-them-while-you-can special offers, giveaways, and prizes for shoppers.

“We’re are clearly focused now on offering the best and most convenient shopping experience for the customer, which means great locations,” said William Harwood, Lidl US communications director. “We are continuing to look other locations on Long Island. We could possibly see over 50 stores in this area in the future.”

The Arlington, Va.-based Lidl US announced the acquisition of Best Market in November 2018 and closed the deal in early 2019. Of the 27 Best Markets acquired, 24 are on Long Island, two are in New York City (Astoria and Harlem) and one is in Holmdel, N.J.

Hardwood said that the new Huntington location is about 20,000 square feet.

“I think that you are seeing here today is what we’re able to deliver to shoppers, a better value proposition each and every day that’s focused on top quality at the best prices on the market. We are also really working to create an easy shopping experience that makes this the first choice for people on Long Island where it can really be the place where they get all of their shop done,” he said.

Hardwood pointed out that low prices and a vast assortment of goods are the backbone of the shopping experience. Lidl’s product mix includes organic and gluten-free items, American products, European specialty items ranging from hard-to-find cheeses to authentic specialty sauces, cured meats, beer, and other award-winning food.

He added that each Wednesday, food and non-food specials will be brought in for a limited time. The rotating non-food selection will include fitness gear, small kitchen appliances, toys, outdoor furniture, and more.

Lid’s produce is brought in fresh each day, and all flowers are guaranteed to remain healthy and beautiful for five days minimum, he said.
