McLane Co. has entered an agreement to buy Meadowbrook Meat Co. (MBM), a national foodservice distributor.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. McLane chief executive officer Grady Rosier stated Thursday that the acquisition expands McLane’s portfolio of companies in the food and beverage industries. McLane is a unit of Berkshire Hathaway.

"The Wordsworth family has built one of the finest and most highly respected companies in our industry, and we look forward to providing [MBM CEO] Jerry Wordsworth and his team our full support to continue MBM’s leadership in the market, while positioning ourselves for further growth," Rosier said in a statement.

Based in Rocky Mount, N.C., and with annual sales of about $6 billion, MBM operates 35 distribution facilities and provides foodservice supply-chain services to thousands of national and regional chain restaurants in the United States.

"We are excited to become part of the McLane and Berkshire Hathaway family, which provides an extraordinary base to continue to serve our wonderful customers and expand our business," Wordsworth stated.

According to McLane, MBM will continue to be led by the current executive management team and operate out of its existing facilities in the same markets. McLane provides grocery and foodservice supply chain solutions for convenience stores, mass merchants, drug stores, and chain restaurants nationwide.
