BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart’s fast-growing e-commerce team has a new leader.

Walmart’s fast-growing e-commerce team has a new leader.

Fernando Madeira, former president and chief executive officer of Latin America at Walmart’s e-commerce arm, has been transferred to the United States to succeed Joel Anderson as chief executive officer of Walmart’s U.S. website.

Anderson left Walmart on June 20 to become president of teen retailer Five Below Inc.
Madeira, who had been based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, was relocated to San Bruno, Calif., where the U.S. operations of Walmart.com are headquartered and where hundreds of employees were recdently added to help integrate the company’s Web sales with its brick-and-mortar stores.

E-commerce has been a growth area for Walmart and now accounts for $10 billion in annual sales. Walmart has been experimenting with ways to incorporate e-commerce into its operations and give shoppers more options for buying goods. The company recently announced a prototype program allowing shoppers who order groceries from Walmart’s website to drive to a pickup center and collect the food without leaving their vehicles.
