SheaMoisture makes new commitment to Black men

NEW YORK — SheaMoisture has unveiled a multiplatform commitment to Black men with a digital content series highlighting their multidimensionality, the national launch of a new product collection and a $1 million investment program meant to support their dreams.

The pioneering beauty and personal care brand, which was founded with the mission to support and invest in Black women, is rolling out these programs to address the specific needs of the other half of the Black community.

The programs span three core pillars.

#MyStoryMyPower Docuseries

For far too long, the many dimensions of Black men have not been acknowledged while their stories have been co-opted by others. Launching Tuesday, SheaMoisture’s #MyStoryMyPower digital docuseries celebrates the fullness and diversity of Black men.

The series starts with seven episodes featuring conversations with twelve men from different backgrounds, exploring themes such as mental health, family and being a Black man in America. With honest and frank dialogue, the episodes counter prevailing perceptions of Black men and shine a light on their nuanced experiences and their multifaceted identities.

SheaMoisture aims to empower Black men to reclaim their stories and speak their truths. By doing so we are making space for Black men to turn those truths into sources of strength and power.

The content can be viewed on the brand’s Instagram and YouTube accounts.

A New Collection for Hair and Body

Utilizing its award-winning innovations and formulation expertise, and its history and understanding of the community it serves, SheaMoisture’s newly expanded Men’s collection is an extensive assortment of bath, body, and hair care products, including:

  • Avocado Butter & Manuka Honey Conditioner
  • Raw Shea Butter & Mafura Oil Bar Soap, Body Wash, and Shampoo
  • Himalayan Salt & Volcanic Ash Body Wash
  • Coconut Oil & Maca Root Conditioner
  • Neroli & Vetiver Bar Soap and Body Wash

With Fair Trade Shea Butter as the foundation of the entire collection, these products were created to address the long unmet grooming needs of Black men.

Investing in Black Men

Building on the brand’s historic and ongoing support for the dreams of Black women, SheaMoisture will now scale their Community Commerce program with a $1 million multi-year commitment to fund and invest in Black men. Grants and investments will be awarded to Black male entrepreneurs who are disrupting conventional norms and are defying conventions ascribed to them while working to support and create wealth in their communities.

Opportunities for men to apply for funding and entrepreneurial support will be released in March, along with the names of the organizations and partners that will be included as part of the brand’s purpose announcement.

“SheaMoisture is proud to invest in and support Black men,” says SheaMoisture CEO Cara Sabin. “Long committed to serving the women in our community, we are excited and humbled by the opportunity to now launch these initiatives. Understanding all too well the biases and challenges that confront our men, SheaMoisture is uniquely positioned to address and provide solutions specifically for them. With intention and purpose, we launch this effort and are hopeful for the impact we can have in our communities.”
