Leon Bergmann has been promoted to president of Supervalu Inc.’s independent business organization, replacing Mark Anderson, who is retiring at the end of this month. Bergmann reports to Supervalu’s president and chief executive officer, Craig Herkert.

Bergmann had joined Supervalu in January as group vice president of independent sales, marketing and merchandising. Prior to that he had been senior vice president of sales and customer service, Northeast, at C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc., with responsibility for customer satisfaction and sales for Ahold USA accounts. In his new role Bergmann is responsible for the overall strategy and growth of the independent retailers that Supervalu serves. He continues to oversee the sales, marketing and merchandising team as well as lead the independent business regions throughout the United States.
