Target names new chief information officer

Target Corp. has named a new chief information officer and detailed security enhancements following the massive data breach that hit the chain during the 2013 holiday season.

Bob DeRodes has been named executive vice president and CIO, effective May 5. He replaces Beth Jacob, who left in early March.

DeRodes will be responsible for ongoing data security enhancement efforts as well as the development of Target’s long-term information technology and digital road map.

The company is continuing to search for a chief information security officer and a chief compliance officer.

Upgrades include plans to incorporate MasterCard chip-and-PIN technology across Target’s REDcard portfolio.

Bob DeRodes has been named executive vice president and CIO, effective May 5. He replaces Beth Jacob, who left in early March. DeRodes will be responsible for ongoing data security enhancement efforts as well as the development of Target’s long-term information technology and digital road map.

DeRodes comes to Target with more than 40 years of experience in information technology, data security and business operations. He has been a senior information technology advisor for the Center for CIO Leadership, the Department of Homeland Security, Secretary of Defense and Department of Justice. In addition, he has provided independent advisory services to corporations, private equity firms, and boards of directors. He has also held top technology posts at multinational companies including CitiBank, USAA Federal Savings Bank, First Data, Home Depot and Delta Air Lines. He also serves on the board of NCR Corp.
