CHICAGO — According to a Reuters report, a proposed class-action lawsuit has been filed in federal court here accusing Walmart and two staffing agencies of violating minimum wage and overtime laws.

According to a Reuters report, a proposed class-action lawsuit has been filed in federal court here accusing Walmart and two staffing agencies of violating minimum wage and overtime laws.

The suit alleges that the retailer and the agencies required temporary workers to show up early, stay late and work through their lunch hours.

Walmart is facing protests and possible strike actions at some of its stores on Black Friday. The actions are being sponsored by groups that include a contingent of current and former Walmart employees dubbed OUR Walmart. In early October members of OUR Walmart staged what it called the first strike against the retailer in Los Angeles. Employees also struck in a number of other cities, including Dallas, while longer strikes took place at distribution centers in Southern California and Illinois.

OUR Walmart is supported by the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union.
A Walmart spokesman told Reuters that the suit is being driven by publicity-seeking unions, and contended that the retailer is committed to ensuring that its employees are "treated appropriately and compensated fairly."
